I have seen many beautiful castles in the past in the UK and in France. However, recently I fell in love with a variety of German castles, not only because of their rich history but also the incredible architectural beauty. My husband and I were driving along the Swabian Alp between Stuttgart and the Bodensee when we noticed a giant castle in the distance. It was built on top of a hill and looked like it came straight out of a fairytale. We decided to make a detour to take a closer look. Hohenzollern Castle is built on the ruins of a former castle dating back to 1267. You can book a guided tour that takes you through the myriad of beautiful rooms and for those of you traveling with kids, this is the castle you should visit. They can dress up like kings and queens and are entertained by actors throughout the tour.
