From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urnes_stavkirke Urnes Stave Church is a stave church on the farm Ornes on the south side of Lustrafjorden in Luster municipality in Sogn and Fjordane county in Norway . The church is dated to around 1140, and although the date is uncertain, it is one of the oldest stake churches. It is also architecturally and culturally unique among the remaining stave churches due to the wood carving and extensive interior decor. It was included in UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1979 as one of the first two Norwegian entries. The Stave Church stands on its original tuft , is owned by the Ancient Remembrance Society and is used on a few occasions for ecclesiastical acts.
