It is one of 28 remaining stake churches in Norway, and one of the largest. The church is of the Borgund type and still stands in its original place with preserved pole construction. The church has a carved entrance style in a drag style. It was rebuilt and expanded in the 17th century. The church is located in Ringebu municipality in Oppland , approx. 60 km north of Lillehammer . The church is the millennial site of the municipality of Ringebu , together with the surrounding area, Ringebu vicarage and Gildesvolden.
