From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B8dven_stavkirke Rødven Stave Church is located in Rødven , a village in Rauma municipality in Møre og Romsdal . The church is believed to have been built around 1300, but the oldest part dates from the 12th century. The church has undergone several changes over time. It was taken over by the Fortress Memorial Society in 1907 after a new chapel was erected close by ( Rødven chapel ). Rødven stave church is of the so-called Møre type . It is characterized by the fact that the churches have intermediate rods in the outer walls and transverse beams that bind the poles together. Only two stave churches of this type have been preserved, Rødven Stave Church and Kvernes Stave Church . These churches also have exterior chimneys that contribute to stiffening the building structure. Rødven stave church is clad with a recessed panel and the roof has roof tiles. The ship and choir have the same width, about 6.4 m, but the roof of the choir is somewhat lower than on the ship. The choir was erected in the 17th century. Originally the choir was a bit narrower. During a severe storm in the 1690s, the roof rider was completely destroyed. Today's rooftops are from the early 18th century. During Håkon Christie's archaeological excavation in 1962 - 1963, marks were found for earthen posts from an older post church on the site. Later, traces of settlement and tombs from the Iron Age and Roman times were found near the church. In the Middle Ages, it was first annexed church to Veøy and relieved it by being a church for the people around the Rødven Fjord. Today, the church site is a little central for land travel, but with sea travel, which was the most important in the Middle Ages, the place was central to the surrounding villages. The church site is visible from a boat or from the other side of the Rødven Fjord. The church site is first mentioned in Trondhjems Reformats 1589 . The church's north portal has pilasters with Romanesque details that Christie dates to the early 12th century. These pilasters and parts of the walls may be from an older church, while the current one dates to the 1300s. Coins from the 1100s have also been found.
